Grand Haven Twp., MI (WGHN) – Grand Haven Township trustees have approved a zoning change that will allow Harbor Transit to build a new $25 million operations center on 30 acres along 172nd Avenue, between Walmart and Speedway. Fox 17 reports that the the facility will replace Harbor Transit’s current 31,000-square-foot center, which has become too small for its growing ridership.

The new 43,000-square-foot center will include:

  • Office space

  • Workforce training facilities

  • Fueling infrastructure

  • Vehicle maintenance areas

Executive Director Scott Borg said the location was chosen based on ridership data and will help the transit authority expand services by putting more buses on the road.

The project now heads to the planning commission for further approvals. Construction is expected to begin in March 2026.  In July of 2024, Representative Hillary Scholten (MI-03) announced that Grand Haven’s Harbor Transit Multi-Modal Transportation System will receive $16,252,400 from the FY24 Bus & Bus Facilities Grant Program
