Mary Ellen Murphy is the host of WGHN’s Good Morning Grand Haven Monday through Friday from 6-10 am.
Mary Ellen got her start at a tiny radio station in Monroe, MI in the mid 80’s. From there she worked in Ann Arbor eventually landing in a top ten market in Detroit where she worked for a decade. From there she moved to Seattle and then back to West Michigan in 1999. Murphy has been on the West Michigan airwaves for over two decades.
When she is not on the radio, Mary Ellen enjoys baking, hanging at the beach and photography. She also writes a monthly column for the Grand Haven Tribune.
What does Mary Ellen love about being on the radio the most? She says it’s connecting with her listeners. Many who have become friends over the years. “Radio gives me a chance to be transparent every time I open the microphone and I think the audience appreciates that. I’ve shared my life experiences both good and bad to the audience more than half my life.”
A huge fan of The Beatles, Murphy has a Beatle Break every day on the show where she highlights a moment in their career followed by a song. Her favorite Beatle is George, but John comes in at second place.
Mary Ellen loves being on the air in Grand Haven because not only is the area so beautiful, but it’s close to the beach too. The audience is loyal and she feels at home.
