Muskegon, MI (WGHN) – The City of Muskegon was informed on, Wednesday, September 10, 2025, that Cole’s Quality Foods would be ceasing production operations at its facility located at 1188 Lakeshore Drive effective today. We have since confirmed with the company’s Human Resources department that production employees were notified today, that operations are ending immediately. Office staff will remain for several more weeks to complete final administrative work. The facility’s official closure date will be November 9, 2025.
The company has indicated that impacted employees will continue to receive pay for 60 days beyond today, in compliance with the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, which requires certain employers to provide advance notice to employees in cases of significant layoffs or closures. The official WARN notice was posted today and can be seen here.
At this time, the city has no information on the future of the physical facility but will be connecting with Furlani Foods leadership—Cole’s new parent company following a December 2024 acquisition announcement—to discuss next steps.
