(Lansing, MI) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer has declared a state of emergency for Houghton and Ontonagon counties in the Upper Peninsula as a result of floods that hit the area in July. Damage estimates for Houghton County are over a million-dollars, and Ontonagon County had to use almost 90-percent of its road commission equipment to make emergency repairs to the roads.
Whitmer says the declaration will open up more resources for the counties after the initial recovery effort fell short of providing needed help.
