GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – (WGHN) large fire broke out Friday morning at the Brookmeadow Apartments, heavily damaging a garage structure and sending thick black smoke into the air.
The fire started around 11:15 a.m. in a 30-unit garage building at the apartment complex, located near 44th Street and Kenowa Avenue. Witnesses captured video of intense flames and smoke as firefighters arrived on the scene.
According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, the garage was already fully engulfed in flames when emergency crews arrived. Multiple fire departments from both Ottawa and Kent counties responded to help contain and extinguish the blaze.
Officials say the garage building and all of its contents suffered extensive damage. However, no injuries were reported.
A spokesperson for the apartment complex confirmed that no residential buildings were impacted, though some residents were temporarily evacuated as a precaution.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no previous issues had been reported with the garage unit where the fire is believed to have started.
