Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – In late May a major infrastructure project on Fulton Avenue in Grand Haven began.. It spans from First to Fifth streets. The $3 million project, which includes water main and sewer line replacements, and new road and sidewalk construction, will be administratively managed by the Michigan Department of Transportation. The city’s engineer will be the onsite manager overseeing the project.
From the City of Grand Haven:
It’s another productive week along Fulton Street last week, with another milestone approaching as the project transitions to another block (from 3rd up to 4th Street). The most recent project activities and the anticipated upcoming schedule for construction activities are outlined below.
Last week’s project activities:
· Sanitary sewer was completed through Third Street.
· The storm sewer was completed mid-block between Second and Third Streets.
· The water main was connected at Third Street.
· Road grading in preparation for base paving started between Second and Third Street.
· Water services were installed between Second and Third Street
· The 18-inch water main tie-in at Second Street was completed
This week’s project activities:
- Road rebuilding between Second and Third Street continues at the beginning of this week
- Concrete curb and sidewalk are currently scheduled for Thursday (sidewalk removals will occur beforehand on the north side).
- The storm sewer at the Third Street intersection will be completed.
- Removals between Third and Fourth Street will begin (and stop short of the Fourth Street intersection).
Upcoming:
· Clean-up between First and Second Street
· Base paving from Second to Third Street.
· Concrete driveways from Second to Third Street
· Water main installation between Third and Fourth Street
· Sanitary sewer installation between Third and Fourth Street
Construction schedules can often change, but we will do our best to provide up-to-date information in each update or let you know if there are time-sensitive updates.
Reminder: As crews progress along Fulton, I want to send a friendly reminder about underground sprinkling in the City’s right-of-way. If you have underground sprinkling in the parkway (the area between the sidewalk and the street), we recommend salvaging the sprinkler heads and severing the line(s) that run beneath the sidewalk to the parkway. Neither the city nor the contractor is responsible for restoring the irrigation installed in the parkway.
Access to Properties
Access to properties will stay open unless there is active construction happening in front of your driveway. If you have questions or concerns about parking, please look for the on-site inspector (Mark Anthony with Abonmarche Engineering) or talk to one of the contractors for help. Feel free to reach me at 616-847-4888 as well.
Traffic Control
Fulton Avenue from Second Street through the Third Street intersection remains closed to through traffic. The intersection at First Street is open to through traffic to Jackson and Washington, and the Second Street intersection will be reopening this week. Fulton between Third and Fourth will be closed to through traffic this week until infrastructure work is completed. Please be sure to stay alert and watch for detour routes and changes to detours as the project moves into another block. Exercise caution and be observant when driving or walking through the construction zone. Follow sidewalk detours and do not enter the active construction site. If you happen to encounter any issues with detours, please report them so our team can review and address them if needed.
Site Safety
No accidents have been reported this week. It is a busy and active construction site with materials being moved between blocks. Thank you to all the residents for their attention to safety as you drive to and from your homes and navigate around the construction site.
If you have any other needs or concerns during this time, please feel free to share them with me or DPW Director, Michael England (616-847-3493). If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at dkollewehr@grandhaven.org or 616-847-4888.
Have a great week –
