Washington D.C. (WGHN) – Military.com reports that Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Linda Fagan has been relieved from her duties as the service’s top officer.
On Tuesday morning a Coast Guard-wide message was sent out by acting Secretary of Homeland Security Benjamine Huffman. Huffman announced Fagan’s removal but did not say why the action was taken.
Fox News has the story on Monday evening and said a Department of Homeland Security official voicing concerns over “an erosion of trust” based on recruiting concerns, border security and the service’s focus on diversity.
In his message, Huffman took responsibility for the relief and acknowledged the officer’s nearly 40-year career.
“Under my statutory authority as the acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, I have relieved Adm. Linda L. Fagan of her duties as commandant of the United States Coast Guard. She has served a long and illustrious career, and I thank her for her service to our nation,”
Vice Commandant Adm. Kevin Lunday is serving as acting commandant.
The Coast Guard referred all questions regarding the termination to the Department of Homeland Security. Fagan was here for the 100th Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival in Summer of 2024.
