OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — A Louisiana man accused of firing several shots through a camper door at a contractor in Holland Township has been identified and formally charged, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies identified the suspect as 45-year-old Lance Wade Wilson of Deridder, Louisiana, who was temporarily staying at Drew’s Country Campground on Ransom Street in a camper. Deputies were called to the campground around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday after a 911 caller reported being shot at approximately four times.
Investigators say the victim was a contractor performing maintenance work at the campground. Wilson was reportedly aware of the work taking place.
When the contractor knocked on the camper door to discuss payment, Wilson allegedly fired multiple rounds through the door for reasons that remain unclear.
The contractor was not struck by the gunfire and contacted police.
Authorities evacuated nearby residents, closed traffic in the area and deployed deputies, the sheriff’s office Critical Response Team and crisis negotiators to make contact with Wilson.
At approximately 6:05 p.m., Wilson voluntarily surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
Wilson was arraigned on charges of discharging a firearm in a building, felonious assault, possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol and reckless use of a firearm.
His bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety. He remains in the Ottawa County Jail.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office or Silent Observer at 877-88-SILENT (74538) or visit mosotips.com.
