Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – A public memorial service has been scheduled for Mandy Karolkiewicz and her six children, who were killed in a Grand Haven Township murder-suicide in July.
WOOD TV 8 reports that the service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Harvest Vertical Church in Grand Haven.
Ottawa County sheriff’s investigators said Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, fatally shot his wife, Mandy, 39, and the couple’s six children before setting their home on fire and taking his own life on July 24. Investigators have said Mandy likely died before the children.
The children were identified as Keegan, 15; Bennett, 12; Smith, 11; Ella, 11; Caroline, 11; and Theodore, 5.
Family spokesperson Emily Jones said the family hopes the service will focus on remembering Mandy and the children.
“We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support from the Grand Haven community and beyond,” Jones said. “We ask that this occasion be one of remembrance as we grieve together and celebrate the joy they brought into the world.”
More than 100 people attended a community prayer vigil days after the deaths. The investigation remains ongoing.
