Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – About 200 people gathered Sunday evening at Duncan Woods in Grand Haven to honor the eight members of the Karolkiewicz family who were found dead Friday in their Riverside Trail home.
Friends and family identified the victims as Kristopher and Amanda Karolkiewicz and their six children: Keegan, Bennett, Teddy, Smith, Caroline and Ella. The children ranged in age from 5 to 15.
Ottawa News Network reports that the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says investigators are looking into a possible murder-suicide, but stress the investigation is ongoing and no final determination has been made. Officials say some of the victims had gunshot wounds, and additional information is expected after autopsies are completed.
The vigil was organized by local students and included pastors, grief counselors and community members who gathered to pray, remember the family and support one another.
Grand Haven Area Public Schools announced grief counseling will be available for any district student from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday at Hope Church in Grand Haven and Summit Church in West Olive. No appointment is required.
The victims were discovered Friday after firefighters responded to reports of smoke at the home. While searching the residence, crews found the eight family members inside. The cause of the fire and the deaths remain under investigation.
