(Undated) – The Justice Department says ICE or FBI agents will not serve as poll monitors in next week’s midterm elections. The federal agency clarified that only ATF and DEA officials will be at voting locations, after the NAACP filed a lawsuit seeking to block law enforcement personnel from serving as election monitors.
The DOJ says the monitors’ primary role will be to observe, take notes and interview willing voters outside polling places. They cannot interfere in voting, and are prohibited from carrying any firearms.
