West Olive, MI (WGHN) – The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners has voted to take a formal role in the state review of the proposed Silver Maple Solar project in Zeeland and Jamestown Townships. The board voted 10-1 to authorize the county administrator to file a petition to intervene with the Michigan Public Service Commission by the November 12 deadline. The county will also develop its position on the project and hire specialized legal counsel.
Up to $50,000 provided by the developer will be used to cover those costs.
The proposed solar development would cover nearly 1,900 acres. County officials say intervening will give Ottawa County an opportunity to raise local concerns about land use, agriculture and the review process.
The conversation on flock cameras fell flat and public comment did not hold back:
Earlier in the meeting, commissioners approved about $35.1 million in September accounts payable and farmland preservation agreements protecting development rights on approximately 228 acres in Jamestown, Chester and Polkton Townships.
The meeting also began with recognition of county employees, including Sheriff’s Office deputies who received commendation and life-saving awards, and an Environmental Public Health employee who received an outstanding customer service award.
