(Grand Rapids, MI) – The two candidates for U.S. Senate in Michigan clashed in their first debate Thursday night. On a Grand Rapids stage, Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed went after his Republican opponent Mike Rogers over high fuel costs.
Rogers hit back, saying El-Sayed’s policies will raise the costs of gasoline and utility rates.
The debate comes as a recent Fox News survey shows a close race, as 50 percent of likely voters backed El-Sayed while 49 percent supported Rogers, which is within the margin of error.
El-Sayed was asked about his stance on the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement efforts.
Rogers said some of the administration’s immigration enforcement efforts probably weren’t appropriate.
