GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — Downtown Grand Haven was filled with witches, warlocks and plenty of Halloween spirit Friday night as more than 300 people participated in Grand Haven Main Street’s first-ever Witches & Warlocks Night.

The inaugural event invited adults to dress up, gather their friends and explore downtown businesses for an evening of shopping, entertainment and Halloween-themed activities. Participating merchants created special experiences throughout the district, including tarot card readings, handwriting analysis, giveaways, promotions and other surprises.

“We were thrilled with the turnout for our first Witches & Warlocks Night,” said Kelly Larson, Chair of Grand Haven Main Street and event co-chair. “More than 300 people came downtown ready to have fun, and our businesses really embraced the event and made it their own. It was wonderful to see groups of people in costume walking from store to store and enjoying everything downtown Grand Haven has to offer.”

Michelle Dixon, who co-chaired the event with Larson, said the enthusiasm from both businesses and participants exceeded expectations.

“For a first-year event, we really didn’t know exactly what to expect, and the response was incredible,” Dixon said. “People went all-in with their costumes, and our downtown businesses came up with so many creative ways to participate. There was such a fun energy throughout downtown all evening. We’re already excited about what we can do with this event next year.”

Witches & Warlocks Night was designed not only as a fun fall event, but also as a way to encourage participants to explore downtown businesses, shop and dine, and experience the Main Street district in a new way.

“One of our goals with Main Street events is to create reasons for people to come downtown, discover businesses they may not have visited before and enjoy our downtown in a different way,” Larson said. “Friday night accomplished exactly that. The turnout and enthusiasm certainly tell us that Witches & Warlocks Night has the potential to become a great annual tradition.”

The evening concluded with a Witches Ball and costume contest at Kirby Grill, where participants gathered to celebrate the end of the night and show off their best witch, warlock and Halloween attire.

Grand Haven Main Street thanks the downtown merchants, restaurants and organizations that helped make the inaugural event a success, as well as the more than 300 participants who came downtown to join in the fun.
