Ottawa County, MI (WGHN) – A 72-year-old Allendale man was injured Friday afternoon around 1:22 p.m. after the gravel truck he was driving overturned at the roundabout at Port Sheldon Street and 120th Avenue.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Lt. Nick Knott, the man was hauling approximately 40,000 pounds of sand when the load shifted as he traveled through the roundabout. The shift caused the truck and trailer to roll onto their sides.
Olive Township Fire and Rescue crews responded to the scene and extricated the driver from the cab. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The intersection and roundabout were partially closed for an extended period as crews worked to clear the truck, trailer and spilled material.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
