(Detroit, MI) – Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander pitched five-and-a-third innings Saturday afternoon in the final start of his Hall of Fame career before he was pulled by manager AJ Hinch and his seven-year-old daughter, Genevieve. Hinch says the fans at Comerica Park definitely showed up to support JV.
Verlander said after the game that he did not expect Hinch to get his daughter to come to the mound and said he had to tell her he was sobbing because of how happy he was. He pitched for 21 seasons in Major League Baseball, with 14 of those as a Tiger. Verlander won 266 games in his career with three-thousand-560 strikeouts, which is eighth all-time. Detroit beat the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday, 4-3, on a walk-off two-run home run from designated hitter Eduardo Valencia.
