Refining Capacity Blamed For Pump Prices

(Houston, TX)  — Diesel prices are surging.  David Holt with the Texas-based Consumer Energy Alliance points to a decline in refineries.

{{1c83695f-00ef-41ca-939b-225520dd1819}} He says back in the 1980s, the country had 350 refineries, and now it’s down to just 130.  And California, he says, just got rid of two.  The gas-tracking website GasBuddy says diesel has crossed the six-dollar-a-gallon mark nationally.  And, on the west coast, the signs at some stations are maxed out at nine-99 a gallon
