HOLLAND, Mich. (WGHN) – Two people were injured Sunday evening after a boat struck a large wake and capsized on Lake Macatawa near Kollen Park.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the lake around 5:09 p.m. after receiving a report of an overturned boat.
Investigators said a 43-year-old man was operating the boat eastbound at a high rate of speed when it hit a large wake. The force of the impact caused the bow to tip onto its side.
The man and a female passenger were still on the boat when deputies arrived.
The man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The female passenger was also transported for treatment and suffered minor injuries.
The sheriff’s office has not released additional information about the circumstances leading up to the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
