Ottawa County, MI (WGHN) – The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating multiple cases of vandalism involving Flock Safety camera systems reported across the county over the past month.
One incident was reported July 29 and involved an estimated $1,500 to $2,000 in damage. Following an investigation, deputies identified a suspect and submitted the case to the Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.
Nineteen-year-old Jerod Allen Folkert of Holland has been charged with one felony count of malicious destruction of police property. He was arraigned Aug. 21 in 58th District Court and later released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond pending further court proceedings.
The sheriff’s office says Folkert’s case, along with other incidents involving damage to police property, remains under investigation. Officials say the incidents are part of a nationwide trend of vandalism targeting automatic license plate reader systems.
