Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – A home daycare in Grand Haven has had its license suspended following allegations involving a teenager who lives in the home.
The Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential says a 15-year-old allegedly inappropriately touched a 4-year-old child who attended the daycare.
The incident reportedly happened August fifth while the child was changing into a swimsuit according to the Grand Haven Tribune.
The child later told her father, who reported the incident to police. State officials say the teenager was still in the home when the child returned to daycare, despite the daycare operator, Tammy Collins, saying he would not be there.
Police and state officials investigated the situation. The state says Collins continued operating the daycare while the teenager lived in the home.
The state’s investigation also included an incident on August 12th, when the teenager allegedly tried to break through the front door of the daycare. Police were called to the home located at 1426 1/2 Columbus Ave twice that day.
The state suspended Collins’ license on Monday and is now seeking to revoke it.
Collins has denied the allegations and says they have not been proven in court.
An administrative hearing is expected to be scheduled soon.
