Grand HAven, MI (WGHN) – State Rep. Greg VanWoerkom announced he secured a $2.1 million state investment to support the Tri-Cities Family YMCA’s capital campaign, helping modernize the organization’s long-standing facility and expand services for families across the lakeshore.
“The Tri-Cities Family YMCA has been a cornerstone of our community for generations,” said VanWoerkom, R-Norton Shores. “Whether it’s providing child care for working parents, teaching kids how to swim, promoting healthy lifestyles, or creating opportunities for people of all ages to stay active and connected, the YMCA changes lives every day. I’m proud to have secured this investment to help ensure the YMCA can continue serving our community for decades to come.”
The funding, included in this year’s state budget, will support critical renovations to the YMCA’s original 1976 building, including infrastructure improvements, expanded early childhood education space, enhanced accessibility, and updated facilities to better serve the thousands of children, families, seniors, and community members who rely on the YMCA each year. The project is part of the YMCA’s broader $10 million capital campaign.
The planned improvements will allow the YMCA to expand programming, improve safety and accessibility, and better meet the growing needs of residents throughout the Tri-Cities area. The investment is expected to strengthen services for youth development, health and wellness, and family support while preserving an important community resource for future generations.
