Port Sheldon Twp., MI (WGHN) – A 33-year-old Holland woman was seriously injured Tuesday evening in a crash on U.S. 31 that closed the highway in both directions for about an hour.
The crash happened around 8:15 p.m., according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say a 2017 Ford Explorer was traveling south behind a white Nissan Titan pickup when both vehicles pulled off the roadway. As the Explorer re-entered the highway, it crossed into the path of a southbound 1992 Chevrolet Silverado, causing the crash.
The Silverado driver was trapped inside her pickup and had to be extricated by the Port Sheldon Fire Department. She was airlifted by AeroMed to a local hospital with serious injuries and is reported to be in stable condition.
The Explorer’s driver, a 45-year-old Spring Lake woman, was not injured.
Deputies say the white Nissan Titan left the scene before officers arrived. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the truck to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office at 616-738-4000.
U.S. 31 at Croswell Road reopened around 9:15 p.m.
