Michigan Reports Signs Of Slowdown In Cyclospora Outbreak

By Mary Ellen Murphy Jul 29, 2026 | 9:00 AM

(Lansing, MI) – Michigan health officials say there are signs the state’s cyclospora outbreak may be slowing, although the outbreak is not over. More than 9-thousand-500 people in Michigan have gotten sick over the past two months, with about 160 hospitalizations. Health officials say emergency room visits for diarrhea are declining, but testing shortages and reporting delays make it difficult to know how quickly cases are actually falling.

Federal investigators are still working to determine whether contaminated lettuce is the only source of the outbreak.
