WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Youth Peace & Justice Foundation is expanding its nationwide fundraising and crisis response following the deaths of eight members of a Grand Haven Township family.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office has ruled the deaths of Kristopher and Amanda Karolkiewicz and their six children a murder-suicide. Investigators say all eight died from gunshot wounds, and a fire inside the home appears to have been intentionally set.
The Grand Haven Tribune reports that the foundation’s fundraiser, launched over the weekend, will help cover funeral expenses, memorial costs and other immediate needs. Student volunteers have already raised hundreds of dollars through community events, including a car wash in Texas.
The organization says it is coordinating with authorities to ensure donations are distributed to the proper recipients. It is also offering free crisis support to those affected through its Community Crisis Response Initiative, including a 24-hour crisis hotline and online chat services.
