Ottawa County, MI (WGHN) – A 21-year-old man is facing multiple felony charges after an alleged domestic assault involving a pregnant woman in Chester Township.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says Maxumis Cody Bair was arraigned Thursday in 58th District Court on charges of assault causing great bodily harm less than murder or strangulation, assault with a dangerous weapon, and domestic violence. Bond was set at $75,000 cash surety, and Bair remains in the Ottawa County Jail.

The charges stem from a July 7 incident on Sherman Street. Deputies say Bair assaulted a 22-year-old pregnant woman while armed with a long gun. During the confrontation, one shot was fired, but no one was hit.

Investigators say the woman took shelter inside the home with an 18-month-old child and a 59-year-old woman while Bair fled before deputies arrived. A multi-agency search followed, prompting nearby residents to shelter in place.

Bair was located several hours later in Muskegon County after a witness reported seeing a man matching his description. He was arrested without incident.

The victim’s injuries were not considered life-threatening. The case remains under investigation.
