Detroit Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander says this will be his final Major League season. The 43-year-old issued a statement today, thanking MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred for making him a “legends pick” for next week’s All-Star Game before announcing his retirement. The three-time Cy Young Award winner has not pitched since April because of an injury, saying this season has been his most challenging and the sign he needed to hang up his glove. In addition to the Cy Youngs, Verlander was an AL Rookie of the Year and a Most Valuable Player, and a two-time World Series champion.
