American GLP-1 Usage Hits Record High

By Mary Ellen Murphy Jul 8, 2026 | 6:37 AM

(Undated) – A new Gallup poll shows a record number of Americans are taking GLP-1 drugs for weight loss. According to the poll, eleven percent of Americans currently take a GLP-1 medication for weight loss, compared to just three percent in 2024. Polling also found that 15 percent of respondents said they had taken the medicine for weight loss at some point, which marks an increase of nine percentage points. As GLP-1 usage increases, it appears the adult obesity rate has gradually dropped to 36-point-four percent while diabetes diagnoses are also steadying now.

Researchers suggest declining obesity points to the wider accessibility of the medication, though there are likely other factors as well.
