(Grand Haven, MI) – The south pierhead in Grand Haven will be closed from Thursday through Monday for repairs. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be completing stabilization work on the pier at Grand Haven State Park and pedestrian traffic will be limited and closed off near the recently opened lighthouse. Crews will place roughly 300 tons of five to 10-ton armor stones at the end of the south pierhead to provide more protection for the pier and stabilize loose sheet piles. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the armor stone placement “is a critical interim measure to protect the integrity of the south pierhead.”
The 151-year-old lighthouse opened to the public weeks ago for the first time in over a decade after repairs.
