Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety is reminding residents and visitors to expect significant traffic changes and delays during the July 4 fireworks celebration.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 4, the following streets will close to vehicle traffic until approximately 2 a.m. Sunday, July 5:
- Harbor Drive between Sherman Avenue and North First Street
- Washington Avenue from Harbor Drive to First Street
- Franklin Avenue from Harbor Drive to First Street
- Clinton Avenue from Harbor Drive to First Street
- Lafayette Avenue from Harbor Drive to First Street
- Howard Avenue from Harbor Drive to Sand Drive
No vehicles will be allowed inside the closure area after 6:30 p.m.
Following the fireworks, Franklin Avenue will become one-way eastbound beginning around 10 p.m. to help move traffic out of downtown. Officers will direct traffic at intersections between Harbor Drive and Beacon Boulevard.
Also at 10 p.m., Seventh Street will close from Franklin Avenue north to US-31 until approximately midnight to improve traffic flow.
Parking will be prohibited on Franklin Avenue between Beacon Boulevard and Harbor Drive from 6 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday to maintain an emergency vehicle lane.
Drivers on US-31 will not be allowed to make left turns between Jackson Street and Robbins Road, and temporary No Parking Tow Away zones will be in effect throughout the area.
The Grand Haven drawbridge will remain closed to marine traffic from 10 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday.
Motorists heading north are encouraged to use North Third Street to access US-31 North. Public safety officials urge everyone to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and expect heavy traffic before and after the fireworks.
