(Lansing, MI) – The 170 Michigan Army National Guard members who have been deployed to Washington, DC to support celebrations of the country’s 250th birthday might be recalled. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has sent a letter to the head of the Michigan National Guard saying troops will not be deployed to help with President Donald Trump’s “Safe and Beautiful Mission” to fight crime in the capital city. She wants assurances that the troops are only in Washington, DC to support the “narrow and limited” America 250 Mission after a website run by the National Guard’s D.C. Joint Task Force listed Michigan as supporting Trump’s “Safe and Beautiful Mission.”
An activist reported this past weekend that Michigan troops were on duty in the Georgetown neighborhood instead of the National Mall where the America 250 events were happening.
