Ottawa County, MI (WGHN) – Harbor Transit will launch a two-year pilot program on July 1, 2026, extending public transportation service to the Ottawa County Fillmore Campus in West Olive.
To encourage use of the new route, rides to and from the Fillmore Campus will be free through Dec. 31, 2026. After that, standard fares will apply.
The campus will serve as a Harbor Transit extension point, with rides available during regular service hours. Riders can schedule trips through the Lakeshore Go app or by calling Harbor Transit. All vehicles are ADA accessible.
The service expansion comes as several county departments have relocated to the Fillmore Campus, including Family Court services and, later this summer, Veterans Services. The campus already houses the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Jail, Clerk/Register of Deeds, Treasurer, and other county offices.
“Prior to this service extension, residents needing to travel to the Fillmore Campus for critical appointments had no access to public transportation, creating a significant barrier for individuals without reliable personal transportation,” shares Scott Borg, Executive Director at Harbor Transit.“ This extension ensures that all residents have the opportunity to utilize public
transit services to access essential appointments and reach their destinations safely and reliably.”
“For many Northwest Ottawa County residents, Harbor Transit is an important connection to work, appointments, and public services,” said Ottawa County Board Chair Josh Brugger, whose
district includes the City of Grand Haven. “As many County services shift to the Fillmore Campus, this pilot helps make sure residents still have a reliable way to reach the help they
need.”
Harbor Transit officials say the new route will help residents without reliable transportation access court appointments, county services, and other essential resources. Ottawa County leaders say the pilot program will help ensure Northwest Ottawa County residents can continue reaching county services as more offices move to West Olive.
