PORT SHELDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Two men died Saturday afternoon after being pulled from Lake Michigan near the south pier of the Pigeon Lake Channel, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to a water emergency shortly after 1 p.m. following reports that several people were struggling in the water near the pier. Witnesses at the scene attempted to rescue the individuals but were unable to do so. Emergency responders recovered the victims from the water and immediately began lifesaving measures. Despite their efforts, both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities identified the victims as a 24-year-old man from Warrenville, Illinois, and a 26-year-old man from Ada, Michigan.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
