(Lansing, MI) – Bills that would make free school meals in Michigan permanent are moving in the state Senate. The Senate Education Committee unanimously approved the bills yesterday to create and fund the permanent program. Public schools in the state are currently serving free meals to all students, but the program has not been codified into state law.

Governor Whitmer has called on lawmakers to make the program permanent before she leaves office at the end of this year.
