Coopersville, MI (WGHN) -A black bear that was seen roaming near Coopersville on Saturday was later struck and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross a highway, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the bear was first reported near 68th Avenue South and O’Malley Drive. Sightings of the animal continued throughout the day, with several residents sharing photos and videos after spotting it near local businesses, including an Arby’s restaurant.
TV 13 on your side reports that The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said the Michigan Department of Natural Resources was contacted and responded to the area. At one point, the bear climbed a tree before eventually moving on.
Later Saturday night, the bear was hit by a vehicle and killed while crossing a highway near Coopersville.
No additional information about the incident was immediately available.
