Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – The swim buoys at Grand Haven State Park were placed in the water tis week. With the buoys now in place, they will begin posting our daily water condition updates for the 2026 season.
Daily posts will include:
• Current water hazard level
• Water temperature
• Wave height
Grand Haven State Park uses the Swim Smart system designed by Jacob Soter:
The beach uses a light-based hazard system to share current water conditions:
• Green Light – Low hazard
• Yellow Light – Medium hazard
• Red Light – High hazard
• Double Red Light – Water access is closed
Each light has clearly marked letters next to it to help identify which color is illuminated. Soter says the life ring cabinet has sensors and will notify Ottawa County Dispatch and the DNR.
