(Lansing, MI) – The Michigan Senate has approved a bill that would let Mackinac Island regulate the prices charged by Shelpler’s Mackinac Island Ferry and the Arnold Transit Company. The two ferry operators are owned by the Hoffmann Family of Companies, and the company issued a statement after the bill passed saying the approach undermines their investments “required to maintain safe, efficient and high-quality service, ultimately impacting both residents and visitors alike.”

Senator John Damoose says Mackinac Island “is the only city in Michigan that does not have home rule.”
