(Detroit, MI)  –  Former Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan has ended his independent bid for governor of Michigan.  Duggan had broad support from the business community, but polls showed he was losing momentum as he noted Democratic Party candidates are surging “because of the anger on the national stage.”
He and his campaign manager and son Ed Duggan concluded Saturday that he did not have a realistic path to winning the governor’s race, adding he was “11 points down and slipping.”  Michigan Democratic Party chair Curtis Hertel praised Duggan’s campaign for bringing “crucial issues to this race,” while Michigan Republican Party chair Jim Runestad criticized Duggan, saying his exit wasn’t a surprise as “voters saw through a lifelong Democrat masquerading as an independent.”
