10th Annual Team Tegan Community Blood Drive

By Mary Ellen Murphy May 8, 2026 | 9:29 AM

Ten years ago, a family in West Michigan faced a moment they will never forget. Their daughter, Tegan, was critically ill. Her hemoglobin level had fallen to just 4.8, and doctors urgently needed blood to help save her life. But there was one terrifying problem — none of her blood type was available in the Grand Rapids area.

As the clock ticked, blood had to be located elsewhere and rushed in. In those frightening hours, Tegan’s family experienced the kind of fear no parent should ever have to endure: wondering what would happen if help didn’t arrive in time.

From that experience, Team Tegan was born.

Hear from her Mom Angela Rose:

What started as one family’s determination to make a difference became a community mission to ensure no other family would face the same uncertainty. Year after year, neighbors, friends, and strangers have come together to donate blood, support one another, and give hope to people they may never meet.

Now, Team Tegan is preparing for its 10th annual community blood drive — and they are hoping to make it the biggest one yet.

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Spring Lake Community Center will once again fill with donors rolling up their sleeves to help save lives. This year’s goal is ambitious: collecting 100 units of blood to celebrate a decade of community impact.

There will be prizes for participants, but the real reward is knowing that a simple act of kindness could one day save someone’s child, parent, spouse, or friend.

Team Tegan’s story is proof that even the most difficult moments can inspire something powerful — a community coming together so that when the next family faces a medical emergency, the blood they need is already waiting.
