Rubio: World Suffering More With High Gas Prices

By Mary Ellen Murphy May 6, 2026 | 7:01 AM

(Washington, DC) – Secretary of State Marco Rubio says other parts of the world are suffering more at the pump than the U.S. Briefing reporters at the White House Tuesday with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on maternity leave, Rubio noted that while the U.S. doesn’t rely on foreign imports for gas, we are vulnerable to global prices. Triple-A puts today’s national average for a gallon of regular unleaded at four dollars and 53 cents after jumping nearly 30 cents over the past week.

Rubio warned that if Iran had a nuclear weapon, they could force gas prices to spike as high as nine-bucks a gallon if they wanted.
