(Lansing, MI) — Data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services shows Lyme disease cases in the state have jumped from 553 in 2022 to two-thousand-167 last year. That is nearly quadruple the number of cases as ticks are spreading to more suburban and urban areas of the state, including Detroit.

Dr. Jameson says the biggest thing you can do is be aware:
The CDC recommends folks avoid wooded and thick brushy areas, walk in the center of hiking trails and use insect repellents approved by the EPA. Also, wear long sleeved shirts and pants when outdoors, check over your body for ticks and shower after being outdoors. There are a number of symptoms that could indicate a tick bite and that may include a bullseye, rash, joint pain, and nerve issues.
