(Lansing, MI) — Data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services shows Lyme disease cases in the state have jumped from 553 in 2022 to two-thousand-167 last year. That is nearly quadruple the number of cases as ticks are spreading to more suburban and urban areas of the state, including Detroit. As ticks increase in number, officials say the risk of contracting Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses also grows.

Michigan is now a “high-incidence jurisdiction” for Lyme disease according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
