(Detroit, MI) – The Trump administration wants Wayne County to submit all ballots to them for the 2024 election. The Department of Justice sent a letter to the county last week, saying they needed the ballots to determine that no federal election laws were broken. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Attorney General Dana Nessel say in a Detroit Free Press opinion piece that the federal government won’t get the ballots and add “it’s not going to hold up in court.”
They say the demand is “about a weaponized DOJ trying to please a president who doesn’t want to be held accountable at the ballot box by voters tired of the chaos of his administration.”
