Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) -A Grand Haven man will spend nearly a year in jail after driving drunk at more than 100 miles per hour and crashing in Ottawa County.

Preston Lee Gee, 39, was sentenced to 330 days in jail and 36 months of probation after pleading guilty to third-offense operating while intoxicated, a felony, and reckless driving, a misdemeanor.

The charges stem from a Nov. 5, 2025 crash on Comstock Street near Mercury Drive in Grand Haven Township. Deputies say Gee was driving east when he failed to stop at the intersection, crossed Mercury Drive, and crashed his 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee into a tree.

The Grand Haven Tribune reports that investigators determined Gee was traveling 111 miles per hour at the time of the crash and about 100 miles per hour in a nearby school zone at Peach Plains Elementary School while classes were in session. The judge said Gee’s driving put multiple people at risk and noted he was fortunate to survive. Gee was ejected from the vehicle and had to be airlifted to a hospital.

Authorities say his blood alcohol content was .158 percent, and tests also showed fentanyl and ketamine in his system.

This is Gee’s fourth drunk driving offense since 2009. In 2023, he was sentenced to more than eight months in jail for aggravated assault and attempting to assault a police officer.

In addition to jail time and probation, Gee must pay more than $1,500 in fines and costs and complete community service. He was given credit for 83 days already served.
