(Washington, DC) – Michigan native Terry Richardson has been awarded the Medal of Freedom in a ceremony at the White House for his actions in 1968 during the Vietnam War. Richardson saved the lives of 85 soldiers when he ran up a hill alone to radio for help from the top of the hill, and directed the air strikes from up there for eight hours with gunshot wounds to one of his legs. President Trump says the North Vietnamese were “unleashing withering fire” against the U.S. troops.

Richardson now lives in Graying and was joined by two survivors of the battle, Dave Himmer and Norm Meier, at the ceremony.
