Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque Announces Closure of Spring Lake Location; Muskegon Location to Remain Open

Spring Lake, MI (WGHN) -Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque has announced it will permanently close its Spring Lake location next month, citing ongoing financial challenges.

The decision was made by the Hissom family, owners of the locally loved barbeque restaurant.

“After careful consideration, our family has made the difficult decision to close our Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque location in Spring Lake,” owner Judy Hissom said. “This decision did not come easily. We have truly enjoyed being part of the Spring Lake community and have loved the building and its beautiful waterfront location.”

Despite strong community support, Hissom said the restaurant has struggled financially. Sales at the Spring Lake location were not sufficient to offset high overhead costs, making continued operations unsustainable.

The final day of operation will be Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026. Employees have been given two weeks’ notice. The Hissom family is encouraging customers to visit during the remaining weeks to support staff as they transition to new opportunities.

Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque’s Muskegon location will remain open and fully operational, continuing to offer dine-in, takeout, and catering services. The family’s sister restaurant, The Early Owl, will also remain open.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received from the community,” Hissom said. “Our family remains committed to serving the area, and we look forward to welcoming guests at our Muskegon location.”

Customers can follow Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque on social media for updates or visit the Muskegon location for more information.
