(Lansing, MI) – The Michigan Democratic Party is asking for permission by the Democratic National Committee to hold the 2028 presidential primary early in the year. The party’s Rules and Bylaws Committee established a process last year for states to apply to be in the early window for 2028 and will select between four and five states. There needs to be one state from each of the four geographic regions of the East, South, Midwest, and West.

State lawmakers set the presidential primary on the fourth Tuesday in February in 2023.
