(Lansing, MI) – The Republican-controlled Michigan House is considering passing bills that would repeal the state’s red flag gun law that took effect nearly two years ago. Representative James DeSana of Carleton authored the bills and says the law allows for someone’s guns to be seized without due process and without a crime being committed. Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson sent a letter to the House Judiciary Committee opposing the bills, saying the red flag law allows police to be able to intervene before someone can be hurt.

The committee held a hearing on the bills this week.
