(Los Angeles, CA) – A new report claims that there’s not much evidence to support the benefits of medical cannabis, and that there could be hidden risks. The study, published this month in the journal JAMA, found that some FDA approved drugs containing marijuana’s active ingredient THC do provide benefits for things like chemotherapy-induced nausea and boosting weight in HIV patients. Use of cannabis for pain management, however, didn’t have any solid clinical evidence of effectiveness.
The researchers say there are real dangers, citing evidence that adolescents using high-potency cannabis have a higher chance of developing psychotic symptoms.
