(Washington, DC) – A bipartisan bill sponsored by U.S. Senator Gary Peters of Michigan to prevent dead people from getting government payments has unanimously passed the Senate. The Ending Improper Payments to Deceased People Act would enhance the accuracy of death data from the Social Security Administration and grant federal agencies access to the information.
Peters says the move would help to save millions of taxpayer dollars by permanently sharing the Social Security Administration’s data with Treasury’s Do Not Pay system.
