(Muskegon, MI) – After nearly four-decades of work, Muskegon Lake is no longer designated as an “Area of Concern.” The lake was given the designation in 1987 after it was heavily harmed due to the public using the lake as a dumping ground. Volunteers have worked tirelessly to restore 84 acres of wetlands and have removed more than 120 acres of contaminated sediment.
A final document seeking the designation removal has been approved by the federal government, meaning it is no longer on the list of “Areas of Concern.”
